Our Gospel Meeting With Brother John Chowning

We have been looking forward to our gospel meeting this week with brother John Chowning for some time. Some of my fondest memories as a new Christian involve the classes brother John taught at Camp Indogan when I was a teenager. His classes always brought out the meaning of the Scriptures in profound ways that provided a challenge while maintaining the simplicity God intended. In the decades that have passed since, brother John has moved to Cookeville, TN, where my wife, Alissa, grew up. John preaches at the Algood congregation. Though life has moved us around geographically, brother John has not moved away from the truth of the gospel. He continues to proclaim the truth powerfully. We always love to hear from Alissa’s hometown friends—many of whom traveled up to Indiana to be at Camp Indogan with us years ago—who still live in the Cookeville area and tell us of the blessings of hearing the truth proclaimed in its power and simplicity by John Chowning. Ben and I occasionally have conference calls with brother John. His keen mind and diligent study continually provide insights that help me to think deeply and more biblically. We thank God for him and the opportunity to hear him open the scriptures to us this week.
