THE DEAD SPEAK

 BEN VICK III

Have you ever had dead people speak to you?  I have.  And I had one such occurrence today.  Hebrews 11:4 tells us that dead people can speak to us.  Colossians 3:16 tells us we teach and encourage each other when we sing together.

Benton Kemp was an elder where I grew up.  I can honestly say I don’t remember any moral lesson or truth he spoke.  I am sure he did, but I don’t remember.  But he taught me today. We were singing “Did you think to pray?”  When we got to refrain in my mind I heard Brother Kemp’s distinct tenor voice.  Oh how praying rests the weary.  That “weary” had so much feeling.  You could hear that the Great Depression was a reality and WWII and burdens of all sorts were real and hard but God got him through.  He taught me today to pray when life is hard because he taught me that through his song so many years ago.

So, the next time you and I are singing together, let it rip, and one day you will speak to me too, long after our short time of fellowship.  I promise I will try my best to do the same.
